“you’re nothing like a recruiter...”

"You’re nothing like a recruiter. This has been one of the most positive and un-recruitment experiences I’ve ever had!"

I quite often get comments like this when speaking with clients and candidates alike, and they always lift me up. Because what this person was really saying: "You see me. You hear me. I trust you."

And isn’t that what we all deserve? To be seen, heard, and supported?

Job seekers are so often forgotten as people and simply logged in an ATS or on a spreadsheet as an applicant, interviewee, rejection, or hire.

In a crowded recruitment market filled with sameness, where every service claims to be different but still treats individuals like numbers, I’ve never wanted to be “like a recruiter”.

In 2012 when I started in recruitment, it appealed to me because of the focus on relationships and service.

Because to me, candidates aren’t numbers; they’re people.

Jobs aren’t just placements; they’re spaces to contribute, grow, and thrive.

Finding the right role, or the right hire, isn’t simple. It’s deeply personal.

When mum was founded almost six years ago, it was with one core belief: Hospitality and recruitment should be human. People deserve to feel valued, supported, and truly seen.

This remains at the heart of our approach today. We listen first, move with purpose and represent your brand with care. It’s not just about filling roles, it’s about introducing the right people who will thrive with you.

I rarely post about recruitment, or about mum. But maybe it’s time for me to start, because conversations and stories like this remind me why I do what I do.

The truth is, working with mum may just be the "most un-recruitment experience" you'll ever have.
