hire with informed conviction, not haste.
Everyone seems to be in a hurry in hospitality right now, but at the same time, not quite moving forward. Decisions made quickly, then reversed; hiring processes sped up, then paused at the last minute. Feels like sprinting on the spot. Or rushing into a brick wall.
Hospitality is having an incredibly tough time, but it’s not beaten. The businesses that will come through this are the ones willing to look ahead and invest in the right people. Not fill gaps at the last minute or leave them open for months on end. This is about confidently and carefully building the strong teams that sit at the centre of any successful hospitality business.
But rushing at this gets you nowhere. Excessive speed doesn’t mean better outcomes; thought and clarity does. Taking the time to understand what the business needs and sourcing people who can deliver it. Stopping to consider the humans you want to hire and then approaching them as people, not data points. It’s essential. You can’t short‑cut that, especially at senior level.
I’m not advising dragging out the hiring process. I’m saying give it the purpose and care it deserves so you can make informed decisions that feel right months and even years later.
Human judgement and considered action sit at the heart of good hiring. Understanding the alignment between a person and a business is people-work (not automation) and it can’t be rushed. Less haste, more speed, as the saying goes.
At mum, this has always been our focus. Helping employers make sustainable, valuable hiring decisions they can stand behind with conviction. But for every employer, whether you use an expert recruiter or not, taking the time to pause, reflect and then efficiently act with conviction will mean you make informed hiring decisions that are worth the investment of your time and resources. Hire with conviction, not haste.
